Vila Real de Santo Antonio

The original town, Vila Real de Santo Antonio, sank into the sea during the 16th and 17th century and caused more and more land to erode. The fishing village was destroyed by the earthquake of 1755.
Vila Real de Santo Antonio, with 13,365 inhabitants, had one of the largest fishing and commercial ports of the Algarve.
Vila Real de Santo Antonio has many delicacies and sweets you will encounter as well as freshly baked cakes and biscuits, homemade jams and fine liqueurs in different flavors.
In recent years this town has grown extensively because of the pleasant shopping streets, cafes, and typical Portuguese restaurants.
